A Safe and Supportive Place to Begin.
Starting therapy is an important step, and it’s natural to feel a mix of emotions before your first appointment. Whether you’re feeling hopeful, uncertain, or a little nervous, know that you’re not expected to have everything figured out before we meet.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another in a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. It is a conversation focused on understanding your experiences, exploring what has brought you to therapy, and identifying how I can best support you moving forward.
There is no pressure to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Complete Your Intake Forms.
Before your first appointment, you will receive a secure email containing your intake and informed consent forms to complete electronically at your convenience.
These forms provide important information about your personal history, current concerns, health background, and goals for therapy. Completing them in advance allows us to make the most of our time together and ensures your first session is focused on understanding your needs rather than paperwork.
The intake forms also explain important information about confidentiality, privacy, informed consent, fees, cancellation policies, and what you can expect throughout the therapeutic process.
If you have any questions while completing the forms, or require assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to help and ensure you feel informed and comfortable before your first appointment.
What We’ll Discuss.
During your first session, we’ll spend time exploring the areas that are most important to you, including:
Your Current Concerns: We’ll talk about what has led you to seek therapy and the challenges you’re currently experiencing. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, grief, relationship concerns, chronic illness, life transitions, or another personal difficulty, this is your opportunity to share your story in a safe and compassionate space.
Your Personal and Health History: To better understand your experiences, we’ll review relevant aspects of your personal, medical, and mental health history. This information provides valuable context and helps guide a treatment approach that is tailored to your individual needs.
Questions About the Therapy Process: Your first session is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We can discuss what therapy looks like, how sessions are structured, the approaches I use, confidentiality, scheduling, or anything else that helps you feel informed and comfortable moving forward.
Building a Therapeutic Relationship.
One of the most important parts of therapy is developing a trusting and collaborative relationship. My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported throughout your journey.
Therapy is not about judgment or having all the answers—it’s about working together to better understand your experiences, build practical coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change.
What Happens After the First Session?
At the end of our appointment, we’ll discuss next steps and determine a plan that aligns with your needs and goals. This may include identifying areas of focus, discussing the recommended frequency of sessions, and developing an approach that supports your personal growth and emotional well-being.
As therapy progresses, we’ll continue to build on your strengths, celebrate your progress, and adapt your treatment plan as your needs evolve.
Looking Ahead!
Beginning therapy is an investment in your well-being and an opportunity to create positive change in your life. While every person’s journey is unique, taking the first step is often the beginning of greater self-awareness, resilience, and emotional wellness.
I look forward to supporting you on your path toward meaningful change.
